When watching the news about the education system in America, you may hear the term STEM from time to time. This wasn’t a popular term until recent years but is now brought up quite often. Your mind may wonder to things like stem cells or something along those lines but that line of thinking would be erroneous.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. Of course, these are subjects which should be taught in any modern school. But the acronym leaves out the arts. Subjects like Philosophy, visual arts, music, and even language are not included in the term.
If you value a wide range of subjects and are looking for an education which combines the modern teachings of STEM combined with classical education like the arts, you may want to look into private schooling for your child. Most any private school, including military schools, will have these subjects in their curriculum.
Learning all of the subjects mentioned above also prepares a student for university. That’s why private schools often refer to themselves as “college prep”. At college, students get to dive deeper into these disciplines and get a well rounded education. In fact, that’s where the term “university” comes from. You get four years to be exposed to education which involves every subject matter and makes you more universally educated.
There are several kinds of private school for high school education. You have a standard civilian themed prep school. You also have schools based in religion. And you have military themed schools as well. Whatever type of education you value will be available. There are boarding and day student options.
Choosing a private school which aligns with your values is key to helping your teenager grow into the person that you would like to see them become. If discipline and motivation is something you value for your child, the military option may be the best fit.
